An African-American of Cuban decent, born and raised in the Bronx, Andre Royo has as much talent as he has style and personality. A sensational actor with wide range, Royo is known for playing roles that exemplify complexity and emotional depth. An industry veteran, Royo’s career spans over more than 20 years. His charisma, work ethic and experience has allowed him to take on these many types of challenging roles and has landed him at the top of the short list for industry decision makers.
Royo may best be known for playing the iconic role of ‘Bubbles’ on critically acclaimed HBO series “The Wire,” appearing on all 52 episodes. He has played many interesting characters such as geometry teacher, ‘Mr. Aster,’ in the drama/romantic comedy THE SPECTACULAR NOW, cabdriver in the alternate universe, and recurring as ‘Henry Arliss Higgins’ on Fox’s mystery drama series, “Fringe,” and ‘Barry’ on the Showtime comedy series, “Happyish.” He was series regular on the Amazon series “Hand of God,” in the role of ‘Robert “Bobo” Boston,’ the slick, smart, and greedy town mayor. Additionally, Royo has appeared on a variety of shows, including Marvel’s “Agent Carter,” NBC’s “Heroes,” a nd Starz original series “Party Down,” just to name a few.
Andre can now be seen recurring as ‘Thirsty Rawlings,’ a sharp lawyer with a charming disposition, on Fox’s hit series “Empire”
Royo appeared in drama film, LILA & EVE, alongside Viola Davis and Jennifer Lopez, which premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival and was picked up by Lionsgate. His first big screen feature was on John Singleton’s crime thriller, SHAFT. He has also appeared in an eclectic array of features such as the 2012 film, RED TAILS, HELLBENDERS, REMNANTS, THE COLLECTION, AUGUST, and SUPER. His most recent feature film, HUNTER GATHERER, premiered in competition at this year’s SXSW festival where Andre received the Best Actor award. The film will be screening at the upcoming AFI Film Festival and will open in NY & LA on November 16th.
Beyond acting, Royo executive produced the independent feature film WOULD YOU RATHER and produced and starred in CALLOUSED HANDS. He is attached to produce two additional features.
